Harry’s Playlist

At 24+ weeks, it is certain that Harry can hear from inside the womb. And I’m pretty sure, as I sing along to his playlist whilst working, that he’s thinking, “Please mommy, leave the singing to daddy…okay?”

But when you’re a preggo and Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You” comes on…would YOU be able to help yourself? I didn’t think so.

Today I was working on a playlist for Harry the 1lb Spaghetti Squash (woah!). I was playing songs as I added them and when I clicked on “Video Killed the Radio Star”, the kid went nuts! He then jammed out to Feist and later, he was active during some Dolly Parton*.

Bottom Line: We have extremely high hopes for this little buddy :)

Any suggestions for the playlist? Some of the songs are humorous (AC/DC “You Shook Me All Night Long”) and some are sweet (Stevie Wonder’s “I Believe”) and because I couldn’t live do without it, there’s definitely some Old 97’s (“You Belong To My Heart”). I managed to find some clean hip/hop (Chris Brown’s “Forever” and TI’s “Love Your Life”) but I definitely need more. Is Salt n’ Pepa’s “Whatta Man” appropriate? Don’t answer that, it’s too late.

*I owe Erin Pasley Alexander a great deal for planting the Dolly seed into my heart…and now you know just how eclectic my taste really is.

This is one of the first movie quotes I thought about when I felt Harry the Carrot (week 21!) kick for the first time last night. Well, maybe not one of the very first things…but it came not too long after. The beauties of his first (felt) kick are many:

1) Daddy was home from Vancouver after 22 long days. In fact, it was the first time we ever really got to sit down since he’s been home and just relax together. Along came Harry, with his impeccable timing.

2) It’s NFP (Natural Family Planning) awareness week. I’ve been working more on our baby story, which has a portion that cleanly excerpts into our NFP story, so it’s been on my mind even more lately. Truly, Harry is such a miracle to us. Whatever sacrifices we need to make or however the timing may seem off, we couldn’t be more in love with this baby and this special time. It hasn’t been easy, but it continues to overflow with blessings.

3) As I start to feel him kicking and get to know his little “schedule” in there, it just continues to astound me that he is already his own person. Matt and I were talking about what he might be like, who he might take after and what gifts he’ll have to offer this world. In the end, the only thing we could really say with conviction is how much we love him and how important his happiness is to us. He can be whoever and however he was created to be; our job is to let him know how loved he is and how beautiful he is, just as he is, as a child of God.

4) Let us not forget, the first time we felt him kick was on NANCY MURPHY’S BIRTHDAY! And she’s pretty awesome and a total joy with a place in both Matt and my hearts. That all leads to a pretty good sign that Harry the Carrot is going to be pretty awesome, too.

Hahaha...I can laugh because I am one :)

 • GOB: Anyway, it involves us making some money with our Mexican friends from Colombia.
 • Michael: I think they're called Colombians.
 • GOB: Oh, I forgot, we’re being politically correct.

…and Matt sent me this back. (video 2/2)

I mean, awesome. I am speechless with amazement. Awesome amazement!

The Peak (my fave non-NPR radio station ever) tweeted out this amazingly awesome time lapse video of the crowd for Celebration of Lights Fireworks show in Vancouver. The crowd is super cool to watch, but I also love the showcase of Vancouver’s beauty.

So I shared this with my husband… (video 1/2)

One of my heroes.

I showed this exact YouTube to my sister the other day, after I did one of the chicken dances in her kitchen and she had no idea what I was doing. What you can take from that is…I am awesome, my sister is not as awesome.

I would walk 500 miles to go to any of these places! #booknerd

I am absolutely proud to be a Texan. But, it’s pretty much true and kind of sad, especially to those who have never lived out of state.
I know a few who’d probably trade places with people in other parts of the country, this being our 32nd straight day of triple digit temps in Austin, bleck!

I have so many favorites about the Harry potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. I can honestly say one of the most pleasant surprises, being a long time fan of the books, was Neville getting his due. Neville has a more significant presence in the books that was finally honored in this last movie. There’s just something about that that made me so incredibly happy.

And, ya know, the poor awkward boy grew into a fine young man who is not hard on the eyes…precious redemption! I love it!
